How to manage inventory of Virtual Machines on vSphere Client

How to navigate to Virtual Machine Inventory in vSphere Client?

  1. Login to vSphere Client (Refer my post on – How to apply vSphere license to know login steps.)
  2. Navigate to Home
    Navigate_to_vSphere_Home
  3. Navigate to Inventory Navigate_to_vSphere_Inventory

How to Remove a Virtual Machine from vSphere Inventory?

  1. Login to vSphere Client
  2. Navigate to Virtual Machine Inventory of vSphere Client
  3. Expand IP Address of UCS Host / EsXI machine Expand_Virtual_Machine_Inventory
  4. Power off Virtual Machine as shown in image Power_Off_Virtual_Machine
  5. Confirm Power off Virtual Machine and wait to power off the sameConfirm_Poweroff_Virtual_Machine
  6. Right Click and Select Remove Virtual Machine from Inventory or Press DEL button on Windows Remove_Virtual_Machine_From_Inventory
  7. Click Yes on Remove Virtual Machine confirm box
  8. Wait for process and Virtual Machine will be removed from Inventory

How to Retrieve Removed Virtual Machine in vSphere Inventory?

  1. To retrieve Virtual Machine from vSphere inventory we need to explore Datastore of Virtual Machine
  2. Click on UCS IP / EsXI IP (Highlighted in image)Expand_Virtual_Machine_Inventory
  3. Navigate to Configuration tab -> Storage link Navigate_to_Configuration_Storage_vSphere
  4. Browse Data-store by right-click data store and click on Browse Datastore Browse_data_Storage_vSphere_Client
  5. Click on “/” root of Datastore
  6. Click on Virtual Machine required to be added back into vSphere inventory
  7. Right click on .vmx file at right side section of datastore and click on Add to Inventory Add_to_Inventory_Virtual_Machine
  8. Provide Name to be given
  9. Select EsXI IP address
  10. Finish

How to Permanently Delete  Virtual Machine from vSphere Inventory?

  1. Login to vSphere Client
  2. Navigate to Virtual Machine Inventory of vSphere Client
  3. Expand IP Address of UCS Host / EsXI machine Expand_Virtual_Machine_Inventory
  4. Power off Virtual Machine as shown in image Power_Off_Virtual_Machine
  5. Confirm Power off Virtual Machine and wait to power off the sameConfirm_Poweroff_Virtual_Machine
  6. Right click on Powered off Virtual Machine and Select Delete from Disk Delete_Virtual_Machine_From_Disk
  7. Click yes on confirm box and wait for process to end
